Group of individuals with Daisy award recipient Leslie YarboroughOn June 18, Trinity Health Senior Communities presented Licensed Practical Nurse Leslie Yarborough, who works at Neighborhoods of White Lake in White Lake, MI, with the prestigious DAISY Award. The DAISY Award is a special honor given to extraordinary nurses worldwide for the compassionate contributions they make through their expertise and character.

DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Foundation was established in memory of Patrick Barnes, a 33-year-old patient at the University of Washington Medical Center who died as a result of having Immune Thrombocytopenia: an autoimmune disease. Following his death, his family wanted to honor Patrick and express their gratitude to the nurses who demonstrated not only clinical excellence, but also kindness, compassion, and sensitivity in caring for him and for all their patients. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses has become a strategic tool for nurse recruitment, retention, and resilience adopted by thousands of health care organizations and schools of nursing in the United States and around the globe. Trinity Health Senior Communities launched its DAISY Award Program in February 2024.

Leslie Yarborough of Taylor, MI, has served at Neighborhoods of White Lake since 2023; prior to that, she worked at Marycrest. According to her nomination by a resident’s family member, she is collaborative in her approach to nursing, providing family with education and emotional support while delivering to residents skillful care, patience, and reassurance.

In reaction to receiving the DAISY Award, Leslie said that she is proud to be a member of the Neighborhoods of White Lake team, adding: “One thing that really stands out about White Lake is the longevity of the staff. So many employees have been here for years – even decades. And I think that speaks volumes about the kind of place this is. People stay because they enjoy what they do, they feel appreciated, and they truly care about the residents and each other.”
