A Place Where the Spirit Is Honored and Belonging Comes First

Spiritual life is a deeply personal journey. At Trinity Health Senior Communities, we honor that journey by offering compassionate, inclusive and optional spiritual support rooted in our Catholic mission and open to people of all faith traditions and those without a formal faith practice.

Our communities are places where older adults are supported not only in body and mind, but also in spirit — in ways that reflect individual beliefs, values and life experiences.

Faith as an Essential Part of Whole Person Wellbeing

Caring for the whole person means recognizing the role that faith, spirituality and meaning play in healthy aging. Research consistently shows that spiritual care and social connection support resilience, emotional wellbeing, reduced loneliness and quality of life as people age.

Across Trinity Health Senior Communities, spiritual wellbeing is woven into daily life through presence, respect and opportunity rather than expectation.

Spiritual life may look different for every individual. Some residents actively participate in worship or spiritual gatherings. Others find meaning through quiet reflection, relationships, creativity, service or time in nature. All expressions are respected.

Rooted in Catholic Tradition, Open to All

Our mission is rooted in the Catholic healing ministry of Christ and guided by Catholic health ministry principles that emphasize dignity, compassion, reverence for life and care for the most vulnerable.

At the same time, Trinity Health Senior Communities warmly welcomes individuals of all faith traditions and those who do not identify with a faith tradition. Participation in spiritual activities is always optional, and no one is ever expected to practice or observe religious traditions that are not their own.

Faith shapes the values that guide our care, not requirements placed upon those who live in our communities.

Professional Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy

Professionally trained chaplains are integral members of interdisciplinary teams across Trinity Health Senior Communities. This reflects widely recognized healthcare best practices that integrate spiritual care as part of whole person support.

Chaplains provide support through presence, listening and guidance during times of joy, growth, transition or challenge. Their role is to ensure no one journeys alone.

Spiritual care is always offered respectfully, confidentially and by choice. Spiritual care may include:

Chaplains offer presence, listening and meaningful conversation to support reflection, connection and personal growth at every stage of life.

Prayer and spiritual rituals are offered when requested, honoring individual beliefs, traditions and personal preferences.

Chaplains provide steady support during times of illness, grief, transition or uncertainty, helping residents and families navigate difficult moments.

Religious Sacraments, such as Communion or Anointing of the Sick, are available to those who desire them, in collaboration with faith leaders and care teams.

Spiritual care is available to people of all faiths, traditions and belief systems, including interfaith and non-denominational support, always by choice and in confidence.

Community, Connection and Belonging

For many older adults, spiritual life is closely connected to community and belonging. Research shows that shared experiences, social connection and purposeful engagement support emotional health and reduce isolation.

Many communities offer opportunities such as:

  • Worship services and prayer gatherings
  • Interfaith discussions and study groups
  • Chapels, meditation rooms or quiet reflection spaces
  • Music, art, storytelling and nature based experiences
  • Seasonal observances and celebrations

These opportunities are designed to support connection, reflection and meaning — not obligation.

Spiritual Support Across Every Stage of Care

Spiritual care adapts as needs change. In Independent Living, residents often choose how to shape their spiritual routines. In Assisted Living, Memory Care and Long term Care, spiritual life is gently integrated to support comfort, familiarity and dignity.

For residents experiencing cognitive change or advanced illness, familiar prayers, music or rituals often remain meaningful and calming. Chaplains collaborate with care teams and families to ensure spiritual practices are supportive and appropriate for each person’s needs and preferences.

Families are welcomed as partners and often supported through their own spiritual and emotional journeys as well.

Faith and spiritual life are expressed not only through worship or programming, but through how care is delivered and decisions are made.

Across Trinity Health Senior Communities, this means:

  • Respecting personal beliefs and choices
  • Offering compassionate presence during difficult moments
  • Supporting hope, resilience and meaning
  • Encouraging connection and belonging
  • Honoring each person’s life story and values

These principles shape the culture of our communities and guide interactions every day.
