From the serene beauty of Elizabeth Park — just blocks from The Mercy Community — to the trendy feel of Blue Back Square to the classic New England charm of its Town Center, West Hartford is a great place to visit and an even better place to live. A residential suburb located to the west of the Hartford metropolitan area, its immediate neighboring towns are Bloomfield, Newington, Farmington, and Avon. West Hartford is approximately 100 miles southwest of Boston and 100 miles northeast of New York City. Direct access to I-84 (East/West) is available with I-91 (North/South) just a few miles east. The Town encompasses 22.2 square miles and has a population of 63,268 (2010 Census).

The Town of West Hartford prides itself on its overall attractiveness, customer service, citizen involvement, public safety, and education — all characteristics that make it a desirable place to live. West Hartford has become a destination place for new businesses and families because it is a full-service community in every sense, from its quality municipal services to its top-rated schools. The Town encompasses a full range of quality housing from starter homes to luxury estates. West Hartford boasts a strong retail and service business sector.

The West Hartford school system has been recognized for years as one of the best in the State. Additionally, it is home to many excellent institutions of higher learning, including the University of Saint Joseph, which borders The Mercy Community campus, the University of Hartford, and a branch of the University of Connecticut.

Outdoor Recreation

If you were never one for the outdoors, you soon will be. South Bend is home to dozens of parks with amazing hiking paths, fishing holes loaded with unlucky fish, and manicured golf courses awaiting your first hole-in-one.

The crown jewel of South Bend, Potato Creek State Park, centers around 327-acre Lake Worster. For the active, this is the place to kayak, hike, bike and fish. For the dreamers and wanderers, it is absolutely the most breathtaking and relaxing oasis, and a premier spot for bird watching.

Unique Retail

Whether you’re a bargain hunter, a boutique browser, or a mall walker, you’ll be happy to know: it’s all right here! From University Park Mall and Heritage Square to Council Oak Antiques to the Satori Boutique, you’ll go home wondering how you accumulated so many bags! Of course, we also have all the usual staples: Walmart, Meijer, and Sam’s Club, but we also have the South Bend Farmer’s Market – where you’ll never leave empty handed.

Arts & Entertainment

With nine Performing Arts & Theater destinations, you’ll always have a reason to dress up and go out for a little razzle dazzle. A few of our residents' favorites are the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Shakespeare at Notre Dame and the Dinner Detective Murder Mystery Show. For those feeling lucky, we have not one, but two casinos! And for those looking for a lazy afternoon cultural stroll, the Snite Museum of Art and the South Bend Museum of Art are wonderful destinations. South Bend is the perfect place to discover a love of theater and the arts.

Always a pleasure to visit St Paul's. A very relaxing atmosphere, a courteous staff, and the residents are friendly.
